North Campus or West Campus?
Don’t pick blind.

Real UW students break down Hansee, McCarty, and Alder: noise, commute, bathrooms, and whether the “community” pitch actually holds up.

Housing @ UW

At University of Washington Housing & Food Services, most students live either on North Campus or West Campus in the residence halls. They also run apartment-style communities like Cedar Apartments, Mercer Court, and Stevens Court, plus some family housing options.

The university’s official housing rates page for 2026–27 lists 16 different residence hall buildings with pricing details. A couple of other halls you might still see mentioned online are Madrona Hall and Willow Hall, which has since been renamed Oliver Hall.

One thing that can be a little confusing: living-learning communities aren’t separate dorm buildings. They’re usually just themed communities located inside the existing residence halls.

Greek housing is its own separate system and is managed through the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life rather than UW Housing & Food Services.
