Trust & methods

How we keep this
worth trusting.

DormIQ only works if students trust the signal. These are the principles that govern how we collect, synthesize, and display information.

01

Reviews from verified students only

We require a .edu email address to submit a review. We cross-check against the dorm you claim to have lived in. Unverifiable reviews are not published.

02

Grounded AI — no fabricated verdicts

Every synthesized verdict is generated only from actual student reviews of that specific hall. We never generate content about a dorm without underlying reviews. Low-signal dorms show honest empty states, not fabricated summaries.

03

Conservative language, always

"Students often mention thin walls" not "This building has thin walls." Inference synthesizes signals — it does not make factual property claims. We take defamation exposure seriously.

04

Per-field confidence, not hidden

Our inference pipeline attaches a confidence level to every field. Low-confidence fields are surfaced internally for validation before being shown publicly.

05

Reviewer privacy is structural

Behavioral profiles derived from reviews are never shown to other students. Individual review authorship is never exposed. Profiles are aggregated to the building level. Reviews are deletable on request.

06

No paid placements

DormIQ does not accept payment to promote, suppress, or alter the presentation of any residence hall. The sort order is signal-driven, not commercial.
